If you’re considering a vending machine for your factory, office or dormitory, the first question is usually: what does it cost? The honest answer is that for most workplaces in Singapore, it can cost nothing at all. Here’s how the options actually work.

Option 1: Free placement (most common for workplaces)

Under a free-placement arrangement, a vending operator installs and owns the machine, stocks it, services it and keeps it running — at no charge to you. You provide a suitable spot and a power point. The operator earns its money from sales, so its incentive is to keep the machine well-stocked and working.

This is the right fit for the large majority of factories, dormitories and workplaces with steady foot traffic. There’s no capital outlay, no maintenance burden and no staff time required. If a site has enough people passing the machine each day, free placement is almost always the sensible choice. Read more about vending machines for factories and vending machines for dormitories.

Option 2: Rental

Some organisations prefer to control pricing or product selection more tightly, or have lower foot traffic that doesn’t support a free placement. In a rental model you pay a monthly fee for the machine and may take a share of — or full control over — pricing and margin. This suits venues that want the machine as a guaranteed amenity regardless of sales volume.

Option 3: Purchase

Buying a machine outright makes sense only for organisations that want full ownership and are prepared to handle restocking and maintenance themselves (or pay separately for it). For most workplaces the admin burden outweighs the benefit, which is why free placement and rental dominate.

Which option fits your site?

The deciding factors are headcount, foot traffic and how much control you want. A 24-hour factory with hundreds of shift workers is an ideal free-placement site. A small office of fifteen people may need a rental arrangement. A dormitory operator focused on resident welfare usually wants free placement with affordable pricing agreed up front.

The simplest way to find out is a free site assessment — an operator visits, looks at your space and traffic, and tells you which model works and what it would cost (often nothing).
